OUR HISTORY
1825
On April 27, Adam Carl opened Carl's Drug Store at 13 South Carlisle Street.
1829
Adam Carl graduated from Washington Medical College, Baltimore, Maryland and moved the store to 27 South Carlisle Street.
1854
Adam Carl's son William Carl assumed management of Carl's Drug Store when Adam Carl decided to devote his time to the practice of medicine.
1863
Dr. Adam Carl, at his residence and drug store at 27 North Carlisle Street, treated the wounds of Confederate soldiers upon their retreat from the Battle of Gettysburg as they passed back through Greencastle.
1874
After William Carl's sudden passing, Dr. Adam Carl resumed management of Carl's Drug Store and employed his grandson, Charles B. as his assistant. Franklin A. Bushey managed the drug store while Charles attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy so Dr. Adam Carl could resume practicing medicine.
1880
Charles Carl graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and assumed management of the Carl's Drug Store.
1888
Charles Carl purchased Carl's Drug Store from his grandfather Adam Carl.
1916
Charles Carl moved the drug store from 6 North Carlisle Street to the new three-story building that he had constructed at 6 East Baltimore Street.
1935
Charles Carl's son, Edward Rhodes Carl, assumed management of Carl's Drug Store after Charles' passing. Edward became the proprietor after his mother's death some years later.
1974
Frank H. Ervin purchased Carl’s Drug Store from Edward R. Carl.
1999
Frank Ervin moved Carl’s Drug Store to its current location at 145 North Antrim Way.
2005
Carl’s Drug Store celebrated its 180th anniversary as the oldest, continuously operating drug store in the United States.
2013
Rodger Savage purchased Carl's Drug Store from Frank Ervin.
2023
Dr. Wayne Myers purchased Carl's Drug Store from Rodger Savage.
